AST SpaceMobile's Engineering Development Program (EDP) helps recent graduates become spacecraft engineers through hands-on production experience. This Major Assembly track focuses on integration of the CSAT spacecraft structures at the company's manufacturing operations in Midland, Texas.
The program runs in three phases. In Phase 1, participants work as Engineering Technicians on hands-on assembly and integration of CSAT structures and mechanical subsystems, including mechanical integration, fastening, bonding processes, cleanroom protocols, quality inspections and troubleshooting. In Phase 2, high performers become Associate Manufacturing Engineers, leading assembly teams, coordinating production schedules, training junior technicians and collaborating on process improvements. In Phase 3, program graduates work as Manufacturing Engineers, developing procedures, troubleshooting integration challenges, analyzing production efficiency and giving feedback to design teams.
Requirements: a bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing or industrial engineering, physics or a related field; recent graduate or early-career engineer with strong academics and hands-on project experience (internships, research). Experience with mechanical assemblies, aerospace manufacturing or cleanroom environments is preferred. The role requires extended standing, lifting up to 25 pounds, cleanroom work and handling spacecraft hardware.
AST SpaceMobile is building a space-based cellular broadband network that connects directly to everyday, unmodified mobile phones, partnering with major mobile network operators to extend coverage where terrestrial networks don't reach. The company designs and manufactures its BlueBird satellites in Midland, Texas, with engineering in Lanham, Maryland and international offices. Its Engineering Development Program brings recent graduates onto the satellite production floor and moves them through technician, associate engineer and engineer roles.
